Day Zero: A Day of Airports and Anxiety

The day began early. Six am the alarm clock goes off. I ward off the notion of rolling over and hitting the snooze. It is still pitch black outside with a hint of pinkish tinge on the far mountains. No Gandi kisses today.
We both clear away the sleep and roll out of bed. It is day zero, travel day. This day can go easily or be full of frustrations. Will flights be on time? Will our carefully checked bags make it all the way to Peru?
A quick shower, double check the last minute list and we are out the door. No turning back now, this is for real. I feel rested and ready for the day and the days ahead of us.
Will we get the seats we have paid for? After all we are flying Delta through my least favorite airport, Atlanta.
